I'll be honest and say that I'm not quite sure if I ever paid that much attention to this misinformation since I didn't really bother with Apocrypha anyway, and I'd say it was around that time when I started to get more skeptical of claims people make in fandom.

This is more of an overall point, but it is fascinating to see how easy we can collectively fall for something. Confirmation bias is very much a contributer, as is conspiratory thinking. But an even simpler thing that can be easy to over look is that, typically speaking, most people don't feel the need to seriously analyze every bit of every word they see and hear. You can call it being gullible, but it is also that most people are trusting and assume good faith.

What I do find regrettable is when people confidently reiterate what they have heard as fact to other people. I think this easily happens when it comes to works in another language, and that is magnified on fandoms like this where the work itself is somewhat tangled even without that aspect.

But even without that, I still see people claiming that the adaptation of Alan Moore's "For The Man Who Has Everything" from the Justice League animated series is the only adaptation he likes. Problem there being that I have never actually seen where he has said it. Not saying that it is not the case, but it shows how these things spread like wildfire.
