From what I can tell, this Distortion seems to have primarily been caused by Dantes. So how and why did Cagliostro get involved?

The one summoned is his aspect as the Storm King of the Wild Hunt with the Beast of Gévaudan as his mount. Cagliostro names them Avenger Wild Hunt. They were summoned because of their connection with Dantes. On the way of fulfilling his revenge, Dantes faced and killed three enemies that stood on the way of it, first Tarantella/Roa, second the Wild Hunt and third Cagliostro. In 1838, the Storm King awakened from his slumber in Gévaudan and a secret not-recorded-in-history second beast hunt was issued with Morcef as the man dispatched to take care of it. Dantes took care of it because no one was allowed to kill Morcef but him.
