There's an one-off mention in the latest El-Melloi novels saying that the main mechanism of Middle Eastern curses is reconstructing the caster's body instead of messing with the world outside like most other variants. Think something to effect of Western mages burning you by casting fireballs vs Middle Eastern mages burning by casting "my fist inflicts burn", I guess.
