Just got back after a grueling VO session and dinner. But I loved it.

Shot from the studio earlier:



Got to work with some big names in voice acting. It was an awesome learning experience seeing how they adjust and read what we wanted from the lines. In the end I got to do a few of my own, too!

Since some were curious, here the main actors we got to work with, in no particular order:

Michelle Ruff
Laura Bailey
Troy Baker
Kirk Thornton
Wendee Lee
Sam Riegel

Yeah, looks familiar, I know.

In particular we spent a lot of time recording with Wendee (can do various character types) and Kirk (good deep, manly voice) today, while just tweaking for the others. They were incredibly professional and fun to get along with.

Despite what some claim, Wendee doesn't have a bad voice at all -- in fact she has incredible range and a great feel for emotional undercurrent. It's probably that sugar-sweet strawberry shortcake voice that grates on some people, myself included, but that speaks more to the character than the actress. Doing a completely different character today, blew me right out of the water.

It's not often I get to work with experienced professionals in their own fields, and whenever I do it's a wonderful experience. Looking forward to the future! Hopefully there will be even more nameless minor roles for me to try out!

    Hey, no, I think I know what you mean.

    Well, there was one role that required that grating voice but the Japanese was the same irritating loli voice, so yeah.

    Voice acting is definitely something I would not mind doing. Even while working this crappy-ass job, I've been told I got one of those sorts of voices that sounds like they could be doing narration or voicework.

    So if I get rich and/or famous, that's definitely one field I'll tell my agents to look into.

    Voices.com and Allvoices.com (and sometimes craigslist?) are where many find work, though I'm sure established actors get offers personally.

    lol no, it's not as if she hadn't done it before.

    Just more Faye Valentine than Haruhi or Konata. It would help if I could say who the original VA was.

    All it means is that the direction of many of he past dubs sucked, not the actress.

    Ah, I remember back when Wendee Lee voiced Lady Aribeth in Neverwinter Nights... good times. Her voice was hilarious there.

    Yeah, she has the biggest English VA resume (only about average for Japanese veterans). So... it has definitely its ups and downs.

    Actually, I'm pretty sure Crispin Freeman's resume is bigger.

    He is almost literally in everything. His roles are so vast that even the Japanese look on at him with awe. He voices characters all from protagonists to simple bit-parts. He is Crispin Freeman.

    But! Important question...is Troy Baker as dishy as he looks on videos?

    I don't know what dishy means, but yeah Troy is quite attractive and seemed like a pretty cool guy. I only saw him very briefly, though, wasn't even time to introduce myself. Most of my time was spent with Wendee and Kirk.

    Wendee's currently directing a cool non-anime/game ADV project. I don't know if it's public so I won't go into specifics, but it's educational and really neat.
