Lately I've been trying something different with my novel techniques. In my notes for each story, I have an entry dubbed "Tagline" - basically, what would I put on the back of a book to entice a reader? How do I boil down the essence of my intended tale into a simple statement? I'm finding that it makes maintaining the tone of a novel easier, to a degree, because there's always a touchstone to come back to. Whenever I'm in doubt, I return to the tagline - and if it doesn't tell me what to do next, at least it tells me where to start looking.

Incidentally, the line above is the tagline and opening sentence of the novel I'm working on now. What do you think - would you buy it?
