I know I was, and now there's a pretty good test to back me up on it - as well as yours.

While idly browsing Kotaku this morning, I found a story that linked me to a little test. Basically, each question block will play a snippet of a song from a game, and your job is to type in which game it is from.

From sheer memory alone, using no hints whatsoever:



Not bad. Some of these are fairly obscure, though, be forewarned! Hell, since I listen to game music fairly often, I can tell what system it's from just based on how it sounds, even if I don't know the game...

And yes, I will make a follow-up post with correct answers later, since I know some of you were still in diapers when the 90s ended.

    ...some of these are going to drive me fucking nuts. I recognize the tune, but can't remember the game name. Aaargh!

    20 or so with no hints. Another 20 with hints, roughly.

    Only got like 30. Not bad considering we owned a whole 5 games for my Genesis.

    My current score is now 68, after beginning to go through hints (no trivia/screenshots yet). Though I know one of them, for some reason the game isn't letting me put in the name...

    ...unless there was some other game with rappers who played Basketball, I'm pretty damn sure I'm right on that one.


    PS: Hopefully you guys noticed the Chaos Emeralds. They're not just for show, dohoho~~~

    And let's not even get into how to unlock the three secret questions!

    EDIT: Got that one. For some reason, it wanted a space, which according to MobyGames isn't in that game's title, but whatever. 69/93.

    93/93, 100%'d everything.

    Final breakdown, in terms of how I got the answer:
    • 100% Memory: 58/93 (62%)
    • Hints: 14/93 (15%)
    • Trivia: 5/93 (5%)
    • Screenshot: 9/93 (10%)
    • Mobygames: 5/93 (5%)
    • Wikipedia: 1/93 (1%) [Would not accept the US name for this game - it was using the Euro title!]
    • Google: 1/93 (1%)


    • "Non-Cheating" total (Memory/Hints/Trivia/Screenshots): 92%

    (Yes, I know it only adds up to 99% - the other 1% was lost due to rounding.)

    Got my little spreadsheet with the answers, how to unlock the hidden questions, and the locations of all the emeralds. I will say this:
    • The emeralds are in plain sight in each of the games' screenshots. (So you don't have to do something obscure like clicking the Altered Beast Power-Up orbs for example).
    • You can hover over the places for the emerald for a hint as to what game they may be in, though you're boned for one of them as it's hidden in a hidden question, so unless you can find out how to get to the hidden questions...

    I'll post the answers in a week or so.

    Not bad considering I was 3/4 years old and I never had access to SNES/Genesis/Etc. when all of this came out.

    Hey, I didn't make the test. I'm just reposting it.

    13/93 on my first go through using one trivia.

    Damnit, I KNOW a lot of these. I found myself whistling the tunes once the clip was done, but I just WONT remember the names.
