xm's randomity on Type-Moon and other weirdness

Am I losing interest in Type-Moon?

Think about it. Look back at any post I made about the anime version of Fate/Zero. Look at my apathy towards Kara no Kyoukai sans part 5 and 7. Look at this comment I wrote on Myanimelist.net. ("Remind me again why everyone sucks ufotable's cock?") Also note that in that same post, I said I was no longer interested in seeing the KnK anime, except "maybe several years down the line." Note the fact that Fate Stay Night, which is commonly cited as the most popular slice of the Nasuverse, is not my favorite slice of the Nasuverse. I've now finished Endless Number of Possibilities, and while I would like to go back to writing Type-Moon fanfiction someday, I'm not going to right now.

My favorite bit of this world is Tsukihime. It's what I started with. Like gnostic principles, the farther I stray from The Root where I started, the less satisfied I become. Both Tsukhime the VN and Tsukihime the manga are where it's at, as far as I'm concerned. I've said this before, maybe not in the current incarnation of BL, but it's Tsukihime's characters I like the most, its setting I like the most, and its execution I like the most. It makes sense; I first heard about Type-Moon because some guys in a place I used to hang out were going nuts because an English translation of what I now know to be Melty Blood React Final Tuned came out. It all started from there.

But consider this; while Tsukihime was my favorite VN, it's now been usurped by Umineko. And I'm also a huge fan of Higurashi, and enjoyed Higanbana: The First Night a fair bit. If anything, I should be hanging out at an 07th Expansion fansite instead! So why do I keep coming back here!? (Aside from the fact that I love being in a community full of perverts and playful trolls?) This isn't to say I'm going to abandon Type-Moon. Oh sure, there may come a day that I become burned out on this franchise (like I currently am with Touhou and Fullmetal Alchemist), but I need to return to my roots. And I can think of only one way to do that; play more Melty Blood.

Waaaaaaay back when I had finished Kagetsu Tohya, and had just started FSN for the first time, I also "got" the PC version of Act Cadenza. It was a good fighter, but not a favorite of mine. I did enjoy the graphics, the music, and I love the voices the characters have. (One great thing about Carnival Phantasm, even though I found that even less satisfying that F/Z. Come at me, bro!*) But you know what's funny? My main in Act Cadenza is Ciel, and my subs are Hisui, Kohaku, and Mecha Hisui. None of them are favorite characters of mine, and yet I can beat the CPU quite good with any of them. I guess I would give it an 8 out of 10.

Yet I never played the original, the one with a story mode. I never played React. And I haven't played Actress Again. Well, the place where I got Act Cadenza now has all of them. Sooooo . . . I now got the Vanilla MB and MB: React Final Tuned on my PC, ready to go. I have a few questions though. I should probably ask this in the questions thread, but I feel like being an attention whore right now, so:

1: Does React contain everything Vanilla MB does? Do they both have the story mode? I don't know, tell me.

2: Is there a translation for Vanilla MB? At Mirror Moon, there's one for React, but what do I do if my copy of Vanilla MB isn't already patched in English? Well, I can always fall back on React, at least.

Once I finish screwing around with these old titles, I'll see about snagging MB: AACC. Yeah, my place has that too. Maybe it'll be more fun to play?

I am interested in Fate Hollow Ataraxia, Mahoyo, and the Tsukihime remake, (ah yeah, baby!), but if those first two disappoint, then I will probably abandon all pretense of being "a general fan of Type-Moon" and just call myself a Tsukihime/Kagetsu Tohya/Melty Bu-ra-doh fan. If such a thing happens, it shouldn't be for a while, but if it does, try not to act surprised.

*CP gets 6/10. F/Z, both halves of the anime, get 7/10.

If you liked Carnival Phantasm you will probably enjoy hollow since that's the source material for many of the Fate-related sketches.

    1) IIRC, Re-ACT is basically a retuned/revamped version of the original game. The story mode and such is intact; in fact, you need the original game installed to even play Re-ACT.

    2) See above.

    3) MBAACC is definitely more fun to play. More flexible, more characters, and you can play it online without hax.

    4) Trying to work things on that make you happy...

    @ Neir, Leopard, and Five

Beast's Lair truly is filled with jaunty perverts.

Okay, so all I do is install MB, then install React Final Tuned, and then apply the English patch to React? Then just use the React executable to play? If that's the case, that would actually make things easier for me. I wouldn't have to play MB, then start all over for React.

Naturally, xm. Part of what keeps people going is the addition of hot anime girls to ogle.

Well, install the games through the patchers. IIRC they check for game discs and such, and then automate the install from there.

    So really, it should be:

    1) Run the MB English patch, it should install the game for you.
    2) Run the Re-ACT patch, it should install the game for you. Install to the same folder as base Melty.

If in doubt, RTFM; you seem intelligent enough.
