For those who have been following my last two blog posts on the subject, I am pleased to announce that my shift from an animal science major to a journalism major with an animal science minor has gone relatively smoothly, after the initial blow-out with my dad. We sat down and talked it out, really talked it out like we probably should have years ago, and he's willing to let me give this a shot and try my own way, now that he knows I truly want to do it and won't take the easy way out.
On that note, before I can officially apply for the major itself, I need to complete a prerequisite course. I'm not only shifting majors, but I'm shifting schools within our major school system; I started out in the school of environmental and biological sciences, and hopefully if all goes well when the application process starts in September, I'll be switching into the school of communication and information to continue pursuing a journalism major.
The prerequisite course is called Intro to Media Systems and Processes. The good news is it's offered in our third summer semester, from July 9th to August 15th, and meets two days a week, Monday and Wednesday. The bad news is it's a long, late night class; it starts at 6 pm and ends at 9:40 pm, and I have to commute both ways since I live home for the summer. The campus is about a ten to twenty minute drive, assuming my car doesn't encounter trouble along the way.
With that in mind, I'll be saying right now that starting on Monday, I'm probably going to be disappearing from the forum on Monday and Wednesday nights. I don't know what kind of state I'll be in once I get home, especially taking into consideration the drive back and the fact that I have to clean up once I'm home. So for now, I'm thinking I won't be online at all those nights. We'll have to play it by ear and see how I adjust, since on the bright side, I don't have to worry about waking up early for class.
On the downside, though, I'm more of a morning person than a night person, but, eh. We shall see.
