But I always thought sunburns are second degree burns.

you always get bleeding blisters when you go tanning? Now I dont know if I should feel sorry for you or a little better

Yes, I did know that. Never had it happen though. You need some better sun screen.

It depends on the race. Caucasians, especially Northern Europeans, freckle like crazy and get little blisters from sun burn.

Be glad you are not pasty white like that.

This happened to me when I was 10. My shoulders and upper back are, as a result, freckled (and indeed, there's still a few lumps) due to this.

There was only two times in my life that I had more discomfort than that:

    1) I had a nasty chest cold when I was 11 that was so severe I could barely breathe. Mom was worried she'd have to take me to the hospital, but she never did have to. It took like a month or two to go away.

    2) I had chickenpox when I was 12 (you know, right before they developed a vaccine for it... rrrgh). Itch itch itch itch. After a week or so, the itching began to fade.

So I took a bath. And made the mistake of using soap.

Needless to say, I was literally grinding my back into carpet because the itching was that intense...

    Did you wear sunscreen?

Do you know you have to reapply it every hour to get the best effect of it?

Yes, you can get second degree sunburn. *Sighs.*

Oh yes, I wore sunblock, except LOLJUSTKIDDING because see, the sunblock I borrowed from my cousin turned out to be fucking sun enhancing suntan oil she gave me by mistake.

Wow, go to Walgreens and get you a bottle of SPF 30 that's waterproof and aloe and lidocane gel.

    Ouch man.

I would say I feel your pain but I really can't because I've never gotten sun burned before.

    Oh, ouch. Bad luck.

Didn't you think to read the bottle before putting it on, though...?

nope, didn't even occur to me. In my defense I had a sandy beach and people were passing out rum and colas. I was just trying to get it on quick so I could head out and enjoy the sun.

I never claimed to be a smart man.

i didnt know that. honestly i seeem to be pretty resistant against sunburn; i havent had sunburn in 10 years or so, not even after a week of Italia withotu sunscreen. incidentally, i also havent used sunscreen in a very long time either... is there a connection?

if you have a naturally high melanin count, in other words dark skin, your body has a good resistance to UV rays.

I have natural tan skin, so I can't exactly feel the same pain. Even so man, second degree burns are troublesome.
