Because we can't advertise sugary cereal to children - that's unhealthy, and wrong. You see, parents have no authority in their families, so the children will just gorge on it and become obese. . . Or so the reasoning goes.

That's why they eliminated a lot of the classic mascots from commercials - you never see the Trix Rabbit anymore, for example. Or Sugar Bear, or - well, you get the idea. Personally, I think it's another copout for adults to dodge responsibility in raising their children.

Yeh they still whore the crap out of that rabbit, and Lucky, and anything they can feasibly put a mascot on

and they did have a Spiderman cereal for the movie last year, but that was a kinda rare occurrence I guess. Seriously, why couldn't we have a DKR cereal, or avengers, or fucking iron man

Actually, I do watch a fair bit, though admittedly not as much as I used to. But there was actually a whole crackdown on regulations a year or two ago, regarding what could and couldn't be marketed - and cereal (and fast food) mascots were on the THOU SHALT NOT list. It's why you never really see the McClown on TV any more.
