Rate a god

Found this deity raiting service:

http://ratethegod.com/

There are four deities to give ratings once 24 hours so far:

a) Allah

b) Buddha

c) Flying Spaghetti Monster

d) YHWH

For some reason FSM became too mainstream.

YHWH in negative.

Allah is the mid tier deity in ratings, same with Buddha.

    The Bible is literally half-jewish.

I don't see any Old Testaments in the Qoran.

they jack most of it, that's no different than the new testament retconning so much of the old

all the good parts are still in there
  9. Petrikow's Avatar
They're not really retcons, just a slightly less than optimal Greek translation.

Though I was really arguing from the perspective of whoever might have wanted to make that distinction. Just saying that if you want to, you can find much closer relations between Judaism and Christianity than that off what I'd characterize as a more distant cousin in Islam. You could start with the fact that Jesus himself was a Jew, and that the religion itself started out as just one of many Jewish branch religions.

Islam was so alien to the Romans of the 7th century that it took a good 50 years for them to realise they worshiped the same God.

I could easily argue the reverse in that Islam recognizes a lot more of the Christian views than Judaism does though. From a Jewish viewpoint Christ as the Messiah is pretty much heresy and thus huge swaths of the New Testament are invalid, while Islam recognizes quite a lot of it, and even recognizes Jesus as a Prophet and Messiah.

It doesn't acknowledge the important part, though, just like Judaism forgoes as well, which is that Jesus is the son of God. That, rather than that he was a Messiah and a prophet, is the more important part and the core behind most Christian doctrine. They're all heresies to each other in different ways and they all pay tribute to their respective senior in some way, which is why they're obviously related.

I'm personally more of the opinion that there is not real reason to distinguish between them at this point like this site does. I was simply giving reasons as to why you might want to separate it in such a manner.

I got that, I just didn't want that to stand on its own there. It's just weird to me that it happens a lot though. In German the Jewish god is always refereed to as "god" (or well, Gott, but whatever), as is the Christian one, but the Muslim one is always referred to as Allah.

Which is even moreso weird when there are Muslim radicals of the opinion that a non-believer should not use the name Allah in the first place, lol.
  13. Petrikow's Avatar
The real reason for making that distinction, rather than being doctrinal, or about the origins of the religions, are probably because of Islam and Christianity's hostile relations up to the 18th century.

So a historical holdover, basically. The desire to portray the "enemy" as alien is to blame then.

That was the point though, it's mostly deliberate othering because people are Mad at Turks. You just kind of derailed it on scripture comparison.
  15. Petrikow's Avatar
It's not really like the Turks didn't indulge in the practice from the other side of the spectrum either.

Their class hierarchy that divided Christians and Muslims probably gave no impression that they were too mindful with the idea that they worshiped the same God.

(Compare this to the earlier Muslims who held a degree of respect for their fellow Abrahamists, which is partly the reason why the Copts still exist in Egypt.)

Well technically Muslim doctrine gives Christians and Jews privileges over other religious groups or infidels.

But I think the opinion of Jews might have slightly degraded after that whole Zionist state thing.

Lets not bring that issue into the mix.

But yes, that doctrine of treating "the people of the book" with respect was surely the reason for why such situations existed. Muslim Spain was a haven for Jewish thought thanks to such tolerance.

The Turk however, changed all that.
